Join our busy team working to support student progression, completion and outcomes.

The Student Welfare Officer works with colleagues across the Student Engagement team to provide a professional and wide-ranging service that gives students access to prompt, consistent and practical support, advice and guidance.

As a Student Welfare Officer, you will help to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for students, to ensure that all students are supported to fully engage with study and get the most from their time at University. This role will be based primarily in Canterbury.

As a Student Welfare Officer, you can expect to get involved in:

Providing support, advice and guidance to both undergraduate and postgraduate students requiring non-academic advice, including contact with students via email, calls, and in person drop-ins, as well as regular support meetings and follow-ups as required.

Managing records in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements, to support work across the team and to allow for accurate data reporting and insight.

Working closely with other student-facing services such as Student Support and Wellbeing, Campus Security, Accommodation and Kent Union to support students.
You will be responsible for administration of Hardship Funding requests, and related interventions.

What we are looking for in the right candidate:

  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent, including GCSE Maths & English (grade C/4 or above)
  • Substantial experience of working in a student facing role in HE
  • Ability to advise on a wide range of student pastoral issues and the ability to judge when to refer to specialists
  • Experience of working in an office environment with regular use of different software, platforms and systems, and a willingness to learn new systems and tools to support your work.
  • Experience of and ability to manage own workload, prioritising tasks as appropriate to meet changing demands and deadlines.
  • Experience of working in a professional environment with email, phone and face-to-face contact with staff and students of diverse backgrounds, experiences and needs.
  • A willingness to support work across the wider Student Engagement team, and adapt to changing needs and requirements.
