Part Time Fixed term for 15 months from 30th September 2024, 0.6fte

Job Description

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience in a supportive, creative environment, helping to ensure that we offer a high-quality experience to undergraduate students in Philosophy & Ethics. You’ll also be able to contribute to the development of the curriculum and to explore how we integrate Philosophy and Ethics into other courses and programmes, across the University.

About the Role

• To develop and deliver teaching and assessment across a range of modules at undergraduate level.
• To support students in their learning and development, including their professional development and career planning
• To contribute to pedagogical innovation, curricular development and planning within the School in support of its teaching and learning strategy.
• To ensure that responsibilities identified within internal processes, QAA codes of practice, HEFCE guidelines, etc. are robustly met.
• To undertake administrative duties associated with the planning and operational procedures of the School and the University.
• To undertake student recruitment, publicity and promotional activities in the interests of the School and University.
• To contribute to the range of other professional responsibilities shared by tutors within the School.

About You

• Recent, successful teaching experience in Philosophy and Ethics higher education, with expertise in Asian and comparative philosophy
• Experience of interdisciplinary teaching in the Humanities
• A background in theoretical and critical work in philosophy and ethics, combined with their application in and to contemporary debates and challenges, including through partnerships with others
• A clear understanding of current challenges and changes in higher education, and of the contribution of their subject to addressing these
• A demonstrable understanding of innovation in pedagogy and a commitment to student-centred learning

Applications are welcome from candidates who have recently completed, or who are nearing the completion of their PhD.

Applicants must be available to teach from 30 September 2024.
