We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated member of staff to work with us as an Active Campus Coordinator on a 1 year fixed-term contract. This exciting opportunity has arisen to promote and facilitate the delivery of sport and physical activity on campus, contributing to the health and wellbeing of students, staff, and the community.
In addition to creating and facilitating opportunities to be more active, the post holder will also support work-based placements for sports students, liaising with local sports clubs and organisations to create a network of sustainable and effective high-quality placements.
The post holder is expected to work hours over a day and evening rota pattern to ensure day and evening provision is catered for.
Job Purpose:
We are seeking a suitably skilled and qualified Active Campus Coordinator to work within our Care, Arts, Sports and Humanities department. The purpose of the Active Campus Coordinator is to focus of the following two ambitions:
- To promote and facilitate the delivery of sport and physical activity on campus, contributing to the health and well-being of students, staff and the community. This role will encourage and empower the student population to be more active more often whilst in College education (0.8 FTE).
- To have in place a simple clear mechanism for high quality and effective work-based placements for sports students (0.2 FTE).
Key Accountabilities:
Ambition 1:
- Drive the content of and progress against the Active Campus plan, in conjunction with local steering group and national network(s).
- Provide opportunities for increasing numbers of the college community to participate regularly in physical activity and sport, with special focus on the least active groups.
- Work closely with internal and external partners to offer referral routes into PA and sport.
- Engage widely to design activities that suit the college, campus and community, ensuring work is well researched and informed by industry trends and local needs.
- Promote the benefits that sport and physical activity can have on the physical, mental and social health of the population.
- Advise the college on the resource needs (people, places, programmes) to achieve the outcomes in their Active Campus plan.
- Actively support clear and positive pathways between school, college, university and the wider community.
- Prepare quarterly reports on engagement with sport and physical activity to present to the college and key partners.
Ambition 2:
- To engage with key partners in relation to the national framework for the identification and deployment of placement students from sports related courses into community or campus sport (including sportscotland and CIMSPA etc.)
- Work closely with internal and external partners to offer referral routes into work placements.
- To develop and maintain a simple clear mechanism for high quality and effective work-based placements for sports students.
- Outline the benefits to both student and employers, including the range of roles a student can access and the added value they can bring to the sector.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the development of a consistent and high-quality approach to work-based placements.
- Demonstrate a commitment to further national and local partnerships to enhance opportunity and placement experience.
- Commits to an approach to equalities, diversity and inclusion.
- Support internal administration compliance in relation to work placement.
- Monitor students in placements and report on any non-compliance issues in relation to work placement administration.
- Foster a community of supported work placement by observing students in placements and engaging with employers to support placements.
Essential Criteria:
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with minimum of 2 years’ experience in sports development or a related discipline.
- Outstanding communication skills with special focus on presenting and facilitation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Empathy with students.
- Willingness to undertake on-the-job training.
- Computer literacy skills; confidence and competence with social media.
- Experience of running sports clubs and other groups, especially including volunteers.
- Monitoring and evaluation skills for audit and evaluation of service.
- Planning own work schedule to ensure primary responsibilities are carried out.
- The ability to maintain relationships and work effectively with a range of internal and external partners.
