Liverpool John Moores University - School of Psychology

Location: Liverpool
Salary: £37,100 to £44,263 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 2nd July 2024

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to work on the UK Illicit Project, an externally-funded 12-month feasibility study of a school-based universal drug prevention and harm reduction intervention for older adolescents. It is a collaboration between Liverpool John Moores University, Stirling University, the Matilda Centre at the University of Sydney, and the University of Liverpool.

Work includes leading the adaptation and feasibility study of an effective Australian intervention for delivery in the UK through consultation with young people and educational professionals; recruiting schools and liaising with school staff; undertaking surveys and qualitative work with intervention recipients; and contributing to project management and reporting, and preparations for follow-up funding.

To apply for this role, you should have experience of working with young people and/or schools in the UK, have good understanding of mixed-methods research paradigms, familiarity with trial designs, and have a good understanding of the UK drugs situation and effective evidence-based approaches to drug prevention and education, including processes of intervention development.

Please note that interviews are expected in the first week of August, with an anticipated start date of 2/9/24.

Applicants are encouraged to discuss the role with the project lead Prof Harry Sumnall (LJMU) in advance of applying. It is with regret that we will not be able to shortlist candidates who do not meet all of the essential criteria for this post.

Potential applicants should be aware that fully remote working is not supported, and due to the nature of the research, regular presence on campus is required.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction, and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

LJMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcome applicants from all background and communities irrespective of age, transgender status, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion or belief. All our appointments are made on merit.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
