Associate Professor in Graphic Design & Course Leader

The Role

An Associate Professor will have a combination of teaching, research, knowledge exchange, responsibilities with particular emphasis on one of these, combined with leadership and management skills. Those with a focus on teaching will be innovators in learning practice, who study and promote new and good practice across the institution and beyond. The Associate Professor responsibility will involve taking the organisational responsibility working with the Head of Department in relation to Department vision, staff development, appraisal processes, instigating external links with studios/employers.

As an Associate Professor in Graphic Design and Course Leader you will be responsible for student experience of the course, through co-ordination of the course team, planning, managing, organising assessment and reviewing the course. You will monitor student progress, working closely with Module Leaders and Personal Tutors to ensure the student experience is positive.

You will co-ordinate the work of the course team (through regular team meetings) for factional and HPL staff, ensure the effective and efficient delivery of an academically coherent course, ensure the course team adhere to University regulations, policy and procedures, and Academic Framework principles, promoting the development and innovation in learning, teaching and assessment (LTA) on the course and ensure a culture of continuous improvement in collaboration with Heads of Department, Faculty Senior Leadership Team, Faculty Advisory Boards, industry experts and alumni, including making teaching staff preference requests to enhance the student experience of the course.

The Person

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about the discipline of Graphic Design, have significant practical graphic design experience. A substantial experience of teaching and managing Graphic Design Educational Programmes or courses. The successful candidate will have strong organisational skills and interpersonal skills to develop support emerging discipline practice and future facing pedagogy. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Graphic Design or significant professional experience, preferably a teaching qualification and achievement of the relevant level of UKPSF recognition by the end of the probation period (if this has not already been obtained). For those experienced in teaching, this can be achieved through our Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework.

Further information

This is a full time, permanent position with a starting salary of £58,687 per annum.
