Category Procurement Manager (Generalist)

London School of Economics and Political Science - Procurement Services, Finance Division

Location: London
Salary: £50,606 to £58,505
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 26th June 2024

We are looking for a driven procurement professional to join our growing team at the LSE!

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is a world-renowned research university located in London, UK. It is recognised globally for its academic excellence and its commitment to social science research that addresses real-world issues.

As a Category Procurement Manager employed by a UK public body like the LSE, you'll be pleased to know that the university is exempt from public procurement regulations due to its source of funding. This exemption gives our procurement team an exclusive opportunity to use public sector frameworks, create custom competitions, and engage in negotiations to ensure the best possible value for money for the university's non-pay expenditure, which exceeds £100 million annually.

With an 8-year programme on Estates projects and a 10-year programme on IT, you'll be responsible for your own category planning, but you'll have the support of a collaborative team of procurement experts, of which there are four other Category Procurement Managers to help you achieve successful projects. Due to the success of the existing team, this is a brand new post expanding the existing team.

We seek a candidate with extensive expertise in tendering techniques to achieve clear commercial benefits and maximise value for money. We’re looking for someone to have the confidence to constructively challenge goods and services specifications to ensure the LSE secures the best value for money by buying the right things.

Success in this role requires holding MCIPS Chartered Status (or being very close to completing) and a keen interest, solid understanding, academic background, or aspiration to work with responsible procurement standards, aiming to acquire goods and services sustainably, ethically, and in a socially responsible manner to have a favourable impact on the environment, society, and the economy. As the first university to be carbon neutral in the UK, we've set an ambitious target to be Net Zero by 2030. Your role will include decarbonising our Scope 3 emissions in our supply chain to support this goal.

At LSE, we offer exciting challenges and learning opportunities with a positive outlook towards maintaining a healthy work-life balance. If you're an ambitious and motivated procurement professional looking for your next challenge, we encourage you to apply for this fantastic opportunity!

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.

If you would like to discuss your suitability for this role, you are welcome to email Cristian Martin, the Director of Procurement at c.martin10@lse.ac.uk

For further information about the post, please see the how to apply document, job description and the person specification.

If you have any technical queries with applying on the online system, please use the “contact us” links at the bottom of the LSE Jobs page. Should you have any queries about the role, please email c.martin10@lse.ac.uk.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 29th July 2024 (23.59 UK time). Regrettably, we are unable to accept any late applications.
