The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in EPSRC application, and aims towards fundamental scientific research investigating the dynamic loading, motion response, impact of vortex induced vibration and its suppression mechanism, and fatigue failure of subsea power cables subjected to combined 3-dimensional waves, currents, and turbulence. This research will be approached by both numerical and physical modelling of power cable's response. The successful applicant will join a strong research group in Offshore Renewable Energy. This EPSRC funded post is available immediately with an end date no later than 31 May 2025.
The successful applicant will focus on the design and analysis of a cable system for floating offshore wind arrays, coupling hydrodynamic force model, VIV prediction and cable analysis software.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in ocean engineering or offshore renewable energy, with skills in cable design and hydrodynamic modelling. Applicants will also possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to carry out detailed experimental analysis and set up and execute coupled hydrodynamic modelling (e.g. using OrcaFlex).
