Research Fellow

Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to December 2025.

Background

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within a specific research project. The research project is about Developing a Culturally Sensitive Measure of the Experience of Meaningful Work Among Healthcare Staff. 

Role Summary

• Work within a specified research grant about the health and wellbeing of UK healthcare staff 
• Operate within area of specialism to utilise qualitative and quantitative research skills including psychometrics and co-production 
• Analyse and interpret research findings and results 
• Contribute to reviewing the literature using a systematic approach, data collection, quantitative and quantitative data analysis, leading public involvement activities, writing and disseminating scientific results 

Main Duties

The responsibilities include the responsibilities outlined below.

• Collect, analyse and interpret qualitative and quantitative data
• Write scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Lead public involvement activities, including recruitment and discussion sessions
• Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
• Disseminate research findings in research seminars and conferences
• Contribute to Departmental/Institute research-related activities, research-related administration, and small group teaching
• Collect and analyse research data using quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews 
• Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
• Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
• Promote equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture
• Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods

Person Specification

• First degree and higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications (examples include Psychology, Medicine, Research Methods, Sociology, and Occupational Health, although others relevant to research project are welcomed)
• Ability to conduct factor analysis or similar psychometric techniques - or ability to and willingness to learn
• Excellent ability to understand and communicate culturally sensitive topics by being sensitive to the needs of diverse communities
• High level analytical capability and ability to communicate complex information clearly
• Willing to work in person at University of Birmingham and remotely with exact proportion to be discussed at time of interview and offer
• Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day-to-day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
