This role will be based at the internationally renowned Bateson centre located at Firth Court, University of Sheffield (www.sheffield.ac.uk/bateson) working with a clinical academic from Sheffield Children’s Hospital (www.sheffield.ac.uk/medicine/people/oncology-metabolism/meena-balasubramanian).
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Research Associate within an internationally recognised research group in a vibrant and stimulating environment at the Bateson centre, Firth Court.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with relevant experience to join a team of researchers under the direction of Dr Meena Balasubramanian. You will be responsible for supporting projects characterising zebrafish models for vascular EDS and other collagen disorders. The candidate should be passionate about genetic disease research and animal modelling, ideally with a track record of technical skills in this area.
Your main responsibilities will be to assist with running in vivo experiments to assess the potential of novel therapies and drug screening in zebrafish models for vascular EDS. You will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences or other related field, PhD in an appropriate subject. Previous experience using zebrafish as a model organism for human disease, animal certificate (e.g .PIL) advantageous along with skills in fluorescent microscopy, molecular biology techniques, genetic manipulation (transgenics, CRISPR/Cas9). You will have prior experience working in vivo, ideally with zebrafish. Experience with molecular and staining techniques such as bone staining, drug screening will be viewed favourably. Team spirit and a strong work ethic are essential in this dynamic group that values teamwork and cohesion. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are expected.
