ABOUT THE ROLE

The Department of Nursing is a progressive, dynamic, and aspirational part of the School of Health and Social Care and Swansea University. Our goal is to provide the highest quality national and internationally recognised nursing education, research, and innovation.The Department is dedicated to the delivery of outstanding, evidence-based education for those starting on their nursing journey by undertaking a pre-registration nursing degree leading to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, as well as qualified nurses wishing to undertake continuing professional development courses, master’s degrees and doctoral programmes. We have a national reputation for our expertise in developing advanced, specialist and clinical nurses.

We are looking for an individual who is an experienced fluent first language Welsh speaking registered nurse with the NMC who can significantly enhance our student learning experience through teaching and continuing development of the curriculum through the medium of Welsh.  It is anticipated that the successful candidate will help to strengthen the links between our various programmes of study and our key stakeholders via the Welsh language. The teaching staff team will share and promote good practice in teaching and aim to develop innovations in teaching methods to engage and inspire students. The work of the post-holder will primarily involve students undertaking the pre-registration nursing programmes and will involve significant contributions to teaching and supporting students on the pre-registration nursing degree programmes through the medium of Welsh. The post-holder will work collaboratively with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and the University in adhering to the Welsh language strategy and help achieve the targets set for Welsh-medium provision and students electing to study through the medium of Welsh within this subject.

The post-holder will be a part of a wider community of academic staff at Swansea and throughout Wales who are working towards growing the Welsh language as a medium of teaching and research within the Department of Nursing.

Essential Criteria

  1. Current registration with the NMC (adult, child, learning disability or mental health).
  2. A degree in nursing (adult, child, learning disability or mental health).
  3. Fluent Welsh speaker including reading and written Welsh language is required.
