An exciting opportunity has arisen at Birmingham Newman University following a review for a Health and Safety Manager to join our professional Human Resources Team. This is an excellent time to join our growing, ambitious and inclusive university. 

The post holder will be responsible for managing the University’s Health and Safety management systems and promote safe working practices. They will develop and maintain health and safety standards; provide advice and guidance regarding compliance with relevant statutory requirements, legislation and regulations, and promote best practice in accordance with sector and professional standards. Key responsibilities will also include policy development, performing health and safety audits, supporting investigations, reviewing and where appropriate undertaking risk assessments and DSE’s, lead or participate in working groups for the delivery of specific health and safety projects. They will also be required to prepare and present Health & Safety reports. The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for designing and delivering effective health and safety and related training, including staff health & safety inductions.

The successful applicant will be a Chartered member of IOSH or an equivalent body and must have NEBOSH (National Examining Board for Occupational Safety and Health) National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety as a minimum. Experience of UK health and safety best practice and legislation along with relevant practical experience in managing health and safety in the workplace. Previous experience in Higher Education would be advantageous but not essential.
