We are now looking for a Strength & Conditioning Coordinator to join our Academy of Sports team at our Carmarthen campus,  one on a part-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week on a Fixed Term basis until July 2025.

THE ROLE

The post of Strength & Conditioning Coordinator will work closely with the Head of Academy of Sport primarily on the leadership and management of Strength & Conditioning within the UWTSD Sports Academy and in particular the student experience within this dynamic and exciting environment. It is a wide-ranging role covering the whole of the University, but being based in Carmarthen. The Strength and Conditioning Coordinator will be responsible for shaping the future of strength and conditioning at the UWTSD Sports Academy and will ensure the efficient deployment of physical and human resources to ensure the new venture is successful.

Collaborative working will be key in ensuring the whole University benefits from the Strength & Conditioning service and its future success and growth. Creating purposeful partnerships with the National Governing Bodies of sport, regional and local clubs will be an important part of the role.

You will have an in-depth understanding of Strength & Conditioning and extensive experience in operating Strength & Conditioning programmes for Teams and Individual Athletes at all levels, contributing to the wider Strategic Plans of the University, particularly in relation to the development of the Carmarthen Campus. Work within the agreed budget and having a commercial mindset will be important in order to sustain the Strength & Conditioning service and support its future development. Fostering positive relationships with the Academy of Sports Heads will be essential. 

ABOUT YOU

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A relevant professional qualification as well as a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject area.
  • Relevant coaching qualifications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Sport in the HE sector.
  • Proven experience of providing innovative developments in Strength and Conditioning.
  • Experience of the enhancement of the student experience including the monitoring of student satisfaction and responsive and proactive action planning.
  • Proven track record of leading significant growth of Strength & Conditioning programmes or Strength & Conditioning Teams/Individual Athletes, including the management of staff.
  • Experience of effective resource management and planning including people, finances and physical resources.
  • Ability to work in a change management environment and to encourage others to appreciate and embrace change.
  • Ability to raise awareness of potential commercialisation and its impact upon the Strength & Conditioning programme and its future sustainability and development.
  • Ability to lead the Strength & Conditioning programme, including working collaboratively within the University and with external agencies/networks locally, regionally and internationally.
  • Demonstrable evidence of own CPD for the benefit of the Strength & Conditioning programme.

It would also be beneficial if you have:

  • Doctorate in a relevant subject area.
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh (oral and written).
