The opportunity

How would you like to become our new Science Communications Officer? You will be working within our Grants, Engagement and Communications (GECo) facility, to champion scientific writing, create content and engage both staff and wider publics. You’ll achieve this by taking research findings to communicate exciting discoveries to broad audiences, via news outlets, social media, our website and public engagement.

We have two permanent full-time roles available, one with a focus on external communications. And one who will champion communications and engagement with and for LMS staff. Although the roles are separate, there will be overlap in responsibilities and when we are working on big projects we deliver them as a team.

Science Communications Officer (External)

You’ll play a vital role science communications; science-writing, creating news headlines, planning and holding events, going to festivals, pop-ups, schools outreach events and other creative engagement opportunities. You will also help manage our social media channels and website, finding creative ways to reach wider audiences with our science.

Introducing GECo

As our new Science Communications Officer you’ll be based in the Grants, Engagement and Communications Team (GECo) at the LMS. The LMS is a world-leading research institute, and we want you to be involved in generating engagement opportunities, (such as our recent Pop-Up Shop, The Gene Home), supporting staff networks and sharing the amazing work we do. Help us make our science meaningful for more people, reach wider audiences, and build our brand. Use your ideas and creativity for the greater good of science and research, and we’ll help you build your kudos as a key member of the team.

Science meets communication

This is a fantastic opportunity for ambitious communications specialists with a specialism in biomedical science. This is a chance for you to make your mark as an innovative science communicator.  

An understanding of biomedical science and how to creatively communicate research to scientific and community audiences is essential. As are good project management skills, and an aptitude for digital tools to create your work.
