Head of Programme – MSc and BSc Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy Programmes

Role Purpose:

The Head of Programmes will have overall responsibility for a team of permanent and sessional tutors covering the Institute’s Person Centred modality Programmes of Study, at both Under and Postgraduate Taught levels. Training in counselling, psychotherapy and applications of the psychological therapies requires trainers/ lecturers to have specific, highly specialised, skills in facilitating the development of self-awareness, reflexivity and the therapeutic use of self that they can reach the competence requirements for professional practice to work at depth in the therapeutic relationship and therapeutic process. Therefore, the Head of Programme will be expected to hold a professional qualification in Person-Centred Counselling and/or Psychotherapy. They will also have leadership experience in Learning and Teaching.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Post-holders will demonstrate academic leadership and innovation in learning, teaching, and program development.
  • Supporting the management and strategic planning processes of the Institute.
  • Maintain oversight of the recruitment, progression, and outcomes of students.
  • Will be instrumental in driving positive student outcomes and NSS/PTES/TEF key performance indicators.
  • Line-management of programme teams to ensure the quality of provision and student outcomes.
  • Responsible for programme recruitment and admissions criteria (including representation at open events, programme marketing and documentation); leadership of learning, teaching and assessment on the programme; curriculum development; student progression, outcomes and awards; quality assurance, standards and enhancement on the programme; student advice and guidance; liaison with external examiners; organisation of timetabling, room bookings; and production and maintenance of programme handbooks.
  • The Head of Programmes role, may include between 16-20 days teaching/student facing days, some teaching group responsibility and marking/second marking responsibilities as required.

What we are looking for

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent clinical qualification.
  • Registration as a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and/or BACP Accredited Counsellor.
  • Meeting SCOPed training criteria as per Column C.
