Digital Services are responsible for the digital information, systems and technologies used by staff and students across The Open University. Covering all aspects of digital technology at the OU, from sourcing and maintaining systems, through to providing frontline IT support for staff and students. 

The role

The Open University is recruiting for 2 Application Support Engineer’s, 1 permanently and the other on a 12-month fixed-term contract.  

These roles sit within Data and Student Analytics, which supports stakeholders from across the University by enabling them to make evidence-based decisions using insight and analytics. You will be working in a team which is responsible for developing a suite of web-based applications which initially support stakeholders in understanding student behaviour and performance.  

In this role you will be interacting with a cross-functional team that is developing innovative applications using the latest in technology. As an Application Support Engineer, you will assist in deploying, maintaining and supporting the web applications delivered by the Applications development team.

Although this role is aligned to our Milton Keynes office, we are flexible on location across the UK, with the understanding of occasional ad-hoc attendance onsite.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in:

  • Experience of working in a technical applications support role, maintaining web applications (Front-end and Back-end).
  • Knowledge of Azure suite, ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval in a cloud environment.
  • Knowledge of using an Enterprise ticketing system.
  • Confident in planning and prioritising work whilst possessing strong communication skills.
