Care Leavers – Ten Years On is a groundbreaking national research study commissioned by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Immigration and Youth (DCEDIY). It will investigate how care experienced adults who have grown up in residential or foster family care in Ireland and are now aged in their late twenties have fared since they left care at age 18.

Reporting to the two PIs., the successful candidate will play a key coordinating role in the overall management of the research project. They will support the research team to achieve the objectives of the study. Drawing on research, administrative and networking skills, they will liaise with team members, interviewers, and other key actors.  Key tasks will include providing administrative support for the overall smooth running of the project, coordinating fieldwork planning and progression, data management and analysis and contributing to drafting work.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in a social scientific discipline or otherwise equivalent research experience.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong evidence of capacity for research project coordination skills
  • Strong evidence of successful teamwork
  • Substantial experience in planning and carrying out research project.
  • Evidence of strong capacity for research related writing at

Desirable:

  • Understanding of research methods and governance
  • Experience working with research participants.
  • Experience in conducting research interviews on sensitive topics.
  • Experience of recruitment to research studies

Skills & Competencies

  • Writing proficiency.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills include the ability to represent the project and engage successfully with a diverse range of people including interviewees, interviewers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent computer and data management skills.
  • Ability to establish appropriate documentation and record keeping systems.
  • Good presentation skills and ability to prepare and present reports.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both as part of a team and to take the initiative when working alone.
  • Personal commitment, enthusiasm, and professional attitude.
  • Willingness to travel within Ireland if required.

This post is expected to run for 12 months, part-time, and will be remunerated at a level commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience.

Appointment will be made on the IUA scale at approximately Level 1 (commensurate with experience) at a point in line with Government Pay Policy (€31, 150 FTE) pro rata.

Interviews are expected to be held on the 23rd of July.
