You will be joining the delivery team of the Floods and Droughts Research Infrastructure, a significant new investment in UK hydrological science. You will lead the project management and delivery of the FDRI digital infrastructure project, which is developing datasets, digital platforms and processes to enable new data-driven approaches to research.

The digital infrastructure development represents an investment of ~£10M over a 5-year delivery period and will form an important resource for hydrological research into the future, supporting environmental monitoring, data management and analysis. The role will be based within our acclaimed Water Resources science area at our Wallingford site, working within a varied team with expertise in hydrological science, project management and environmental informatics, and liaising closely with our Environmental Data Science team at our Lancaster site.

You will work with the Digital Lead and the digital team to plan and deliver the project. You’ll take the lead in developing and managing the workplan, reporting on benefits realisation, project risks, and finances, ensuring resourcing is in place, managing significant subcontracts and their successful delivery, managing changes to requirements, communications across the project, and reporting progress to the overall FDRI project manager and Project Board. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape and deliver this important project and enhance your existing experience.

We are looking for someone with an interest in the use of technology within research, and an ability to shape the way a project runs, ensuring a successful delivery.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain the detailed project workplan for FDRI digital systems, managing the overall scope of the project and progress to completion
  • Work with the FDRI project lead to define overall objectives, benefits, success criteria/KPI’s and risks
  • Allocate tasks and communicate deadlines to team members
  • Collaborate with domain experts and end users to document requirements for FDRI digital systems
  • Work with the FDRI Digital Lead and project management support (0.5 FTE) to report progress and spend up to the overall FDRI project director
  • Ensure resources and requirements are in place to successfully deliver outputs with software development managers within an Agile framework
  • Manage subcontracts and ensure these are delivering cost-effective and high quality outputs
  • Manage change control processes for FDRI digital system developments

For the role of Research Project Manager for the FDRI digital project, we’re looking for somebody who has:

  • Demonstrable experience delivering successful research, software development or other technical projects
  • Examples of defining and implementing good project management practices
  • Awareness of Agile development methodologies and experience of Microsoft Project would be beneficial
  • Formal project management qualifications would be desirable
  • An interest in the use of data to support robust research and evidence

If we’ve just described you, we’d love to meet. Apply now via the ‘Apply’ button above.
