Sustainability Officer

University of Oxford - Bursary

Location: Oxford
Salary: £31,396 to £44,263 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent

Do you have a natural passion for sustainability, and a drive to shape the way that organisations engage with their environment? Are you looking for a meaningful role which offers the potential for making a positive impact and a genuine difference? If so, you could be the person that we’re looking for.

Exeter College, Lincoln College and Corpus Christi College (all part of the University of Oxford) are outstanding venues combining a traditional college setting with a modern events and catering business. Having recently been awarded Gold status in the Green Impact awards, we are currently seeking to appoint a Sustainability Officer to further develop and manage effective sustainability initiatives which will convert our strategies into action and deliver a more sustainable future.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a role which will be central to supporting the colleges as they seek to operate in a more environmentally sustainable way. Working across the three colleges, the role will be busy, but the breadth of its remit will offer an outstanding opportunity to gain excellent experience across a wide range of sustainability-related initiatives.

Key responsibilities will include: identifying, planning and implementing sustainability initiatives; engaging and educating stakeholders about sustainability; data analysis and reporting; preparing papers for relevant college committees; and helping foster best practices across the all three colleges.

We are looking for someone who has excellent administrative skills, and a strong focus on attention to detail. You will be a confident communicator, with the ability to translate complex data into engaging and easy-to-understand reports, but you will also have outstanding interpersonal skills as you will be working alongside many internal stakeholders as well as external bodies, local authorities, etc. The ability to work autonomously is a must, as is the ability to manage a constantly changing workload and to remain calm under pressure.

Experience working with sustainability or environmental programmes would be an advantage, but is not essential; we are happy to consider a broad range of candidates, from those who are in the early stages of their sustainability career through to those who have considerable depth of professional experience.

In return, we offer a starting salary of £31,396 - £44,263 per annum, depending on skills and experience. We also offer a range of generous benefits including 38 days annual leave, access to excellent pension and healthcare/ dental schemes, a bus pass scheme, and a free meal whilst on duty.

Further Particulars and an application form are available from https://www.exeter.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/sustainability-officer/, or by contacting the HR Manager at Exeter College (vacancies@exeter.ox.ac.uk).

The closing date for applications is 12pm (midday) on Wednesday 3 July 2024.
