About the role

We are looking to recruit a premises assistant to join our Premises Team at the Taylor Institution Library. The Taylor institution library is one of the University of Oxford’s principal research libraries. It is the centre for the study of modern and medieval European languages and literatures, together with linguistics, world cinema, and women’s studies.

You will be part of a team responsible for the smooth and secure running of the Taylor Institution, and for ensuring that rooms are set up as required for lectures and events. Regular duties will include reception duties, assisting with closing routines and locking up, moving furniture and carrying out some basic cleaning and maintenance tasks when required. You may be required to work some of your hours at other libraries.

This is a part-time post, working 22 hours per week as follows:

  • Monday, Friday: 1:30pm to 7:15pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 1:30pm to 5:00pm

Some cover outside core hours may be required on an occasional basis.

The role involves regular manual handling and use of stepladders.

About you

  • You will have experience in dealing with the public and possess good communication skills.
  • You will be reliable, punctual and flexible as regards working hours.
  • You will demonstrate a calm and flexible approach to problem-solving using a range of practical skills and initiative.
  • Previous experience in general security duties and maintenance would be helpful.
