Birmingham City University is a large and dynamic place to study right in the heart of the city. We are dedicated to providing our students with the very best learning and teaching opportunities to help them develop and succeed in their studies and currently have opportunities for a number of Learner Developers to support undergraduate students in developing their academic literacy, assessment practice, study habits, confidence and engagement. These roles are based across the various faculties in the University, are a mixture of two-year fixed-term and permanent contracts, and will suit early career education professionals interested in supporting HE students’ academic progression and success.
As a faculty-focused Learner Developer you will be at the forefront of student academic development in the University, developing and delivering group and individual support activities and interventions within our Faculties. You will also consult with and support staff in the Faculty to develop approaches that positively impact the transition into University study. You will be supporting students with their development of academic writing, critical thinking, referencing, presentation skills, reflective practice as well as their study and organisational skills. You will also track student progress and work with colleagues to develop the support programme.
Educated to at least degree level, you will have the capacity to deliver teaching support to students on courses in one of our faculties – Health, Education and Life Sciences, Business, Law and Social Sciences or Art, Design and Media. You will also possess a teaching qualification and/or teaching experience in a Secondary, Further Education or Higher Education context, with an interest in supporting student transition from FE or school into HE and an understanding of the challenges they may face. You will have AFHEA status or the ability to achieve this within a year, and have a strong proactive and collaborative outlook, with a desire to develop partnerships that impact student success.
