About the role
The role is for an experienced senior systems administrator to support the School of Computing’s IT infrastructure and service delivery. Reporting to the Head of School, this role is critical to the effective delivery of the School’s strategic goals across all activities, including teaching, research and industry engagement.
As part of the IT team, the successful candidate will play a leadership role in directing and mentoring other team members as well as undertaking substantial aspects of the work themselves.
The post holder will be responsible for the management and development of the IT infrastructure, which includes approximately 30 Linux servers and 450 Linux desktops, as well as the deployment and maintenance of educational technologies. The role requires expertise in a wide range of Linux-based technologies, including LDAP, git, SSH, NFS, Apache, Ansible, Docker, and Traffic.
They will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of the University's IT systems. They will be responsible for tasks such as system administration, network management, and the implementation of security measures to protect the University's data and infrastructure.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the field of IT infrastructure management and development, and to contribute to the University's ongoing efforts to enhance its technological capabilities.
About You
The ideal candidate is expected to have a primary degree and/or post-graduate degree (Master’s Degree level or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field. They should possess a strong background in Linux system administration, with proven experience in managing and developing complex IT infrastructures (5+ years). They should also have excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to the University community.
