We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
Salary
Research Assistant: £31,396 to £32,982 per annum (pro rata).
Research Associate: £33,966 to £44,263 per annum (pro rata).
The Role
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic research assistant/associate with well-developed qualitative skills to support delivery of a project on physical activity in young people who have been treated for sarcoma.
Sarcoma is a general term for cancers that begin in the bone and soft tissue. This project will explore what helps and hinders survivors of childhood, adolescent and young adult sarcoma to be physically active. It is a follow-on from our BEACON project which co-designed an intervention to encourage physical activity in adolescent and young adult survivors of cancer.
The project involves two phases. Phase 1 will involve in-depth interviews with 25-30 people aged under 10-24 years old who were diagnosed with sarcoma in the pelvis or extremities. Phase 2 will involve workshops with survivors and healthcare professionals to identify the design changes needed to refine the BEACON physical activity intervention to meet the preferences and needs of adolescents and young adults living with sarcoma. Ultimately, we hope the data collected will form the basis of a follow-on grant to operationalise and test the intervention.
This post is offered on a fixed-term basis for a period of 12 months, in the first instance 80% FTE (i.e., 4 days a week).
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Morven Brown (morven.brown@ncl.ac.uk) for an informal discussion.
