Applications are invited to the role of Senior Research Technician. Candidates will have a strong background in molecular biology with equating experience commensurate with the duties detailed in this post.
You will provide core technical assistance to scientists in the Roper and Holden groups in wide ranging areas including molecular genetics, molecular biology, protein purification and chemical modification. You will also contribute to sample preparation in support of complex experiments including structural biology experiments and single molecule microscopy studies. A proactive attitude to work in, develop, contribute, and take responsibility to multiparter collaborative teams is a requirement for this role.
As part of a wider team, you will work to support and contribute to an ambitious science project to uncover fundamental molecular principles of bacterial cell wall remodelling, including a team of collaborators from Warwick, Belfast and New York.
You will also support smooth running of the laboratory by tasks such as induction and training of new lab members, procurement of group consumables, maintaining laboratory inventories and bacterial strain collections, preparing standard reagents, and contributing to compliance with local health and safety regulations.

About You
You will have a laboratory-based research masters level degree or equivalent laboratory experience in a relevant subject area (biochemistry, biological sciences, or similar). Good organisational skills and high attention to detail is essential. You will be able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. A proactive attitude to work in, develop, contribute and take responsibility in multi-partner collaborative teams is a requirement for this role.
Expertise in molecular biology, protein purification, molecular genetics and/ or microscopy is desirable. As is prior experience in common laboratory management tasks is desirable.
