The UCL Division of Psychology and Languages Sciences is ranked second in the world for psychology (Shanghai Global Ranking, 2022) and is top-ranked in the UK for research power in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience according to the UK’s Research Excellence Framework 2021. The Child Trauma and Recovery research group in the Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology Department, seeks to understand how to better understand, identify, and address the mental health needs of young people exposed to complex trauma. We are particularly focused on young people with experience of the care system.
About the role
This role would support the MRC-funded ReThink programme, which is a large mixed-methods longitudinal programme exploring drivers of mental health and wellbeing in care-experienced young people during two key transitions: i) into and through early secondary school; and ii) into emerging adulthood. These can be periods of substantial disruption for care-experienced young people, and ReThink seeks to understand the psychological, social and service level drivers of mental health during these times, as well as what young people and caregivers view as helpful (or unhelpful) in supporting them over these times.
This position does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require a right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
About you
Candidates will have a strong academic background in psychology or a related discipline. They should have relevant experience in a related area and related methods (e.g., qualitative interviewing, managing quantitative data). They will have excellent interpersonal skills for working with children, teenagers, and service providers, as well as within a busy research team. They should have a good understanding of ethical considerations in research and be highly organised and proactive, with the ability to manage the competing demands of a large project.
