Job summary

The Department of Life Sciences has an international reputation for its teaching and research. We employ over 80 academic staff, have ~100 PhD students, ~300 Masters Students and over 1000 Undergraduate students across 2-degree streams in Biological Sciences and Biochemistry/ Biotechnology.

We wish to recruit an enthusiastic individual with appropriate academic and educational experience to support core teaching on the Department’s undergraduate teaching programmes by providing a range of teaching delivery and support.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will work closely with year and module convenors and education office staff to support on-campus discipline-specific teaching to our undergraduate curriculum. This will include the development of new teaching materials and curating the Blackboard VLE, supporting the running of laboratory, field, and computational practical classes, supporting, and delivering lectures, problem classes and workshops, and assessment of student progress including the marking of coursework and examinations. In addition, you will have a role in supporting pastoral care provision for undergraduates. 

Essential requirements

  • You must have, or be nearing completion a PhD (or equivalent) in a Life Sciences or related area. All applicants should be able to demonstrate some teaching experience ideally in a higher education environment.
  • An ability to contribute discipline specific teaching support to our undergraduate curriculum is essential, including one or more of the following areas: cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, biological chemistry, metabolism.
  • You will also be able to demonstrate an ability to support either quantitative skills (maths, programming, and statistics) for Life Scientists or scientific writing and communication skills.

This is a full time, fixed term appointment for up to 1 year as maternity cover, with an expected start of 01 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. You will be based at South Kensington Campus.
