We are looking for a number of committed, enthusiastic teachers with experience of teaching EAP to join our team for the summer Pre-sessional English (PSE) Programme to teach both face-to-face and online from the University of Reading campus.

The International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) has been one of the University’s fifteen academic Schools since 2013, and it has a longstanding reputation for its expertise in English language teaching and assessment. Our PSE Programme is accredited by BALEAP, the global forum for EAP professionals, and takes a genre approach as well as an integrated approach to developing academic language skills. We offer a competitive teacher package:

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Attend a three-day teacher induction to understand the context, principles, content, & procedures of the programme.
  • Teach EAP to international students so that they are equipped with academic English language skills necessary for their degree destination.
  • Teach two groups of students (face-to-face and online) to fulfil the School’s operational needs.
  • Teach by using the provided materials so that the intended learning outcomes are met satisfactorily.
  • Keep accurate records of students’ attendance and engagement so that University & UKVI compliance is adhered to.
  • Deliver tutorials to students to provide academic support.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to keep informed of key aspects of the programme.
  • Liaise with staff members via relevant communication platforms so that potential issues are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Attend standardisation training sessions for formative and summative assessments to ensure that quality assurance standards are applied consistently.
  • Apply marking criteria and provide appropriate feedback on written and oral coursework so that students understand their performance and areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the administration and marking of exit tests so that students’ language proficiency is further assessed.
  • Engage with continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities, including being observed once, so that own teaching practice is informed by research and reflection.
  • Provide end-of-programme feedback in order to contribute to the evaluation of the programme.

Dates

The dates below are inclusive of the teacher induction:

PSE F (10 weeks): Wednesday 26th June to Friday 6th September 2024, inclusive.

Pay: £38,205 per annum pro rata

Teachers will normally be paid on the last working day of each month. If teachers join after the payroll deadline, they will be paid in the following month.
