33 Hours a week/ 52 Weeks per year  - Fixed Term until 31st July 2025 (Teachers Holiday 42 days per year (pro rata) plus Bank Holidays (pro rata) and 5 closure days)

Kirklees College is a large successful FE college, currently Ofsted graded as Good. Operating across Kirklees with centres based in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.  

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a modern building, with excellent on site facilities, such as a fully equipped gym, hair & beauty salons and fine dining restaurant.

The overall purpose of the role is to provide effective support for our Care experienced and ESOL cohorts on an individual basis and in group setting to support transition, success and progression.

The focus will be on the practical application of literacy and numeracy skills and experiential learning, on a one to one or small group setting, along with focussing on the 4 key areas of preparation for adulthood:

  • Developing Independent Living Skills.
  • Good Health and Wellbeing.
  • Friendships, Relationships and Community.
  • Life/Employment Skills (including Access to Employment)

Transition support for ESOL/CLA/CL students, to support preparation for life in modern Britain and developing skills for adulthood:

  • Communication
  • Problem solving
  • Active listening
  • Adaptability
  • Critical thinking
  • Time management.

The ideal candidate will need to be flexible to the demands of the duties promoting safe, pleasant and positive culture for everyone. You will support with planning, reviews, group sessions, and events. You will promote positive behaviour throughout college.

You will have previous experience of working with young people and adults, including vulnerable, disengaged ‘hard to reach’ students, and be able to understand the range of support which may be necessary to help them succeed. You will have experience of providing mentoring and pastoral support for an identified caseload, with positive outcomes. You will need excellent communication skills, a commitment to the welfare of young people in education and a willingness to undertake relevant staff development.

The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C), Educated to Level 3 or higher

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
