You will be part of an innovative research team in a study adopted by the Mental Health and Wellbeing Theme of the National Institute for Health and Care Research Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands (NIHR ARC-EM). The collaboration of NIHR ARC-EM, the University of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and East Midlands Cancer Alliance Centre for Psychosocial Health are conducting a study that aims to evaluate an intervention to help people awaiting psychological therapy in cancer care. The team’s work has been recognised by The Health Service Journal Awards, Macmillan Cancer Support Awards, The Health Business Awards, and Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust’s Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Scheme. As a remotely delivered project, you will be expected to work from home but also attend in person activities across the East Midlands region, as required (approximately once per month).

You will join a team of researchers who contribute to research and evaluation of multiple innovations developed by the team. Providing research support to a clinical trial of a treatment preparation intervention for people diagnosed with cancer awaiting psychological therapy.  You will also support the evaluation of a newly developed cancer primary prevention programme. This group intervention offers integrated support for long-term change in diet, physical activity and mental health for people who are not yet diagnosed with any long-term conditions but may be at risk.

 You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting and delivering specified research projects under supervision
  • Working in conjunction with other researchers to achieve objectives and deadlines of research projects
  • Conducting literature and database searches and reviews
  • Contributing to research reports, publications and funding bids
  • disseminating the research outputs both academically and for stakeholder populations
  • Networking with stakeholders across the East Midlands region and beyond.

This exciting opportunity will give you the opportunity to contribute to varied research portfolio that aims to improve the lives of people living with and beyond cancer, as well as helping those who are at risk of cancer in the future.

Eligibility

Applicants must have an undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience in relevant subject area, particularly psychology or psychological research methods. Having and post-graduate research qualifications (e.g., MSc or PhD) are desirable as is previous experience of work on applied health research projects, especially clinical trials. We are seeking applications from a wide range of professional backgrounds, and the role may be particularly attractive to those seeking a career in psychological professions. 

This role is fixed term until 31st July 2025. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 30 hours per week).
