ABOUT THE ROLE

Bridging Accountability for Gender Equality in Education (AGEE) is a research project led by UCL in partnership with UNESO’s Section of Education for Inclusion and Gender, and the University of Malawi. It is funded by the IDRC as part of the KIX programme: Knowledge and innovation for strengthened education data systems and data use. The aim of the research project is to address some of the disconnections and lack of communication between different ways of thinking about gender and data in a range of settings.

The Centre for Education and International Development (CEID) is looking to appoint a Research Fellow. You will be working with the AGEE team based at UCL in co-ordinating the research and learning on the Bridging AGEE project, drawing on collaborations in three countries (Malawi, Kenya and Indonesia) as well as internationally. The postholder will be sourcing, reviewing and critically analysing relevant literature from a wide range of scholarly and policy/practice-related sources. You will analyse qualitative and quantitative data assembled for the work of Bridging AGEE from surveys, interviews, focus groups, participatory accounts of meetings and digitally scanned curriculum materials working with the research teams in the three countries .

This post is on a part-time basis (.40 FTE/ 14.60 hours per week) and is initially funded until 28 February 2027

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have a doctorate (or close to submission) in a relevant disciplinary area (education, social science gender / women’s studies or related humanities subject) and have knowledge and understanding of gender equality and education. You will have knowledge and experience of qualitative research, including the design, conduct and analysis of interviews, focus groups and participatory methods, and knowledge and experience of quantitative research, including survey design, and use of relevant software. In addition, you will have experience of working as part of a research team, with international connections, and experience of working in low and middle income countries.
