Job Summary

The Section of Adult Infectious Disease within the Department of Infectious Disease is looking for a Laboratory Manager & Section Safety Coordinator to join the team. The post holder will play a vital role in the administration and management of the research laboratories at the Hammersmith Campus, and be part of an active laboratory management team which supports the various campuses within the Department of Infectious Disease footprint.

Duties and responsibilities

The job includes responsibility for health and safety issues working closely with the Faculty Safety Advisors, laboratory equipment purchasing, servicing and maintenance and ordering research materials. The post holder will be expected to look after the Section’s CL3 suite facilities. Other duties include ensuring good maintenance of facilities and to plan, co-ordinate and oversee the refurbishment of laboratories, seeking advice from central departments (i.e. Estates, ICT, Safety) where necessary, and moving research groups as required. The role also involves assisting with the training of students.

The post holder will work in conjunction with a friendly and dynamic team of academic, administrative and laboratory staff in this top-rated research and teaching Section, providing a high standard of technical expertise and advice.

Essential requirements

  • You must possess a degree or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant biological or medical subject. 
  • Additionally, you must have attained significant laboratory management experience, including experience of CL3 suite management or research and practical experience with a broad range of laboratory equipment. 
  • You must have experience of managing and influencing others, have a demonstratable knowledge of laboratory safety and health and safety regulations.
  • You should be confident and proactive in your approach to problem solving, be organised and have the ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people at all levels.

Further Information

This is a fulltime, open ended role based at Hammersmith Campus and requires travel to other campuses.
