The School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work is a school of social scientists who want to make a difference to the world. We want to enhance social justice nationally and internationally. Making a social difference to us means working with local communities to improve lives. It means doing research that has a real-world impact. It also means preparing critical citizens and strong professionals, who in turn can strengthen communities and professions. It means engaging with stakeholders, with policymakers, with voluntary organisations and with government agencies.

The School has five disciplines: Criminology, Education, Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work. Teaching in these disciplines across both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses. We have a healthy doctoral community across all disciplines.

The School is looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual with a passion for teaching Sociology and Quantitative Methods.

Applicants must evidence:

  • A primary or higher degree in sociology, or a cognate social science subject in addition to a PhD or equivalent awarded (or about to obtain within 3 months of taking post) in quantitative Sociology or commensurate discipline
  • Experience of tutoring at University level or equivalent in broad-based and specific areas relating to quantitative research design and data analysis.
  • Demonstrable scholarly activity in sociology or cognate subjects relevant to quantitative social science.
  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of quantitative social science research methodology and data analysis, including knowledge of survey design, data management, multivariate statistical analysis, data visualisation, and/or cognate subjects.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in related data analysis tools (e.g. SPSS, STATA or similar).
  • Have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to students, academic colleagues and professional bodies and managers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collegially.
