About the role
The Department of Political Science wish to appoint a Research Fellow in Platform Governance with interests in studying the proper governance of the digital public sphere, with an emphasis on social media platforms’ automated content moderation systems or algorithmic recommender systems.
Applications are welcome from scholars in philosophy, political theory, law, and public policy. Empirical scholars whose work has direct policy implications for platform governance are also welcome to apply.
This post is funded for one year, from 1 September 2024, in the first instance, with a possibility of renewal. Part time, flexible and job share arrangements would be considered where possible.
The salary for the Research Fellow position would be at Grade 7 £42,099 - £46, 732 pa. If the successful applicant has not yet received a PhD, appointment will be at the rank of Research Assistant until the PhD is awarded.
About you
The successful candidate will pursue a substantial independent research agenda directly connected to the themes of the Lab project. They will also collaborate with team members to produce co-authored publications and public-facing outputs. And, will be a recent or impending PhD graduate in Philosophy, Law, Political Theory, Public Policy, Political Science, or another field relevant to this post.
The researcher should have a strong background in conducting research, with a strong interest in studying social media and the governance of online speech.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills (both oral and written), team-working skills, self-direction and the capacity for independent work.
