Bangor University is seeking suitably qualified and experienced applicants for the above full-time post to deliver teaching, supervise and facilitate the academic work of medical students undertaking both the Cardiff University C21 North Wales Medicine programme (in teach-out from September 2024) and the new North Wales Medical School (NWMS) Medicine programme. The school is preparing to expand its provision and the successful candidates will have a unique and exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of the independent NWMS programme from September 2024, subject to GMC approval. The post offers an exciting and stimulating working environment with support to enable you to fulfil your professional ambitions.

You will be educated to PhD level or equivalent in a relevant subject area (or be close to completion), and passionate about undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching, with experience in one or more of the fields of, for example, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or Neurosciences. Teaching duties will be primarily with medical students, with contributions to other School programmes including Physician’s Associate, Medical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacology programmes. The successful candidate will develop and deliver lectures, contribute to developing and supervising practical sessions, lead small group tutorials including case-based learning, supervise research projects, set and mark assessments including coursework, provide pastoral care and support acting as a personal tutor, participate in student recruitment, outreach and marketing, orientation and administration of our programmes.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop innovative and exciting approaches to teaching and learning, including digital developments and enhancements, particularly as the new independent programme develops. They will become part of a supportive and dynamic team that will assist and support ongoing personal development, including the opportunity to complete a postgraduate educational qualification and pursue Advance HE fellowship. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable, but if successful applicants are unable to do so they will be offered opportunities to learn. The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as practicable.

The postholders will be responsible to the Dean of Medicine and will be based at our main campus in Bangor with occasional travel to our clinical training sites and Wrexham campus. Through our ‘Dynamic Working framework’ there will be an option to spend some time working remotely within the UK to support work-life balance. *Fractional part-time appointments and Job Sharing arrangements will be considered, and this will be discussed with candidates at interview.
