The School of Life and Medical Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire has a long-established reputation as a centre for excellence for healthcare education. Our vision is to transform lives through our education and research. We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Optometry to provide maternity cover for a fixed term period of twelve months. This role involves delivery of high-quality teaching of clinical skills to support the provision of training and supervision to our students.

Main duties and responsibilities
The person appointed will be responsible for teaching and assessment for the Optometry programmes. They will contribute to the design and delivery of learning and teaching materials (including assessments). The post holder will work as an integral part of the optometry and the wider team and be expected to develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies, which promote interest and enthusiasm amongst students.

Skills and experience required
Applicants must have experience in practice working in community, hospital or primary care with evidence of current clinical practice. Individuals should be a source of knowledge and expertise and possess specialist knowledge within an interest in various aspects of optometry. Proficiency in English Language, ability to plan and manage own activities effectively along with relevant IT Skills are essential.

Qualifications required
This appointment will be made in accordance with guidance from the GOC that the post-holder must have at least two years recent and relevant post qualification practical experience and maintained a minimum of two years continuous GOC registration. You must also hold a minimum of a first degree in Optometry. A teaching qualification or willingness to undertake a teaching qualification is essential. A Doctorate in a relevant discipline or a higher qualification such as from the College of Optometrists’ and/or Independent Prescribing is desirable.
