EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub (the Hub) and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a position of Research Fellow in Computational Composites Manufacturing.
The Hub is a £10.3m investment by the EPSRC to engage academics from across the UK to deliver a step change in the manufacturing of polymer matrix composites. The Engineering Faculty at UoN has an excellent international reputation for high quality theoretical and experimental research funded by EU, EPSRC, DTI and manufacturing industry, including directing the Hub.
The person appointed will develop and validate effective computational algorithms aimed at detecting defects and active control for resin transfer moulding (RTM) under influence of uncertainties. The successful candidate will join the established interdisciplinary team working on the Core project “Resin injection into reinforcement with uncertain heterogeneous properties: NDE and control” funded by the Hub. The team works at the forefront of using and developing uncertainty quantification techniques for composites manufacturing which is an exciting and very novel area of research.
Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related discipline, ideally in a field relating to computational PDE techniques. Candidates must have substantial experience in Finite Elements Methods. Experience in solving moving boundary problems is desirable. Some knowledge of resin infusion and related modelling is beneficial. They must possess excellent computational skills.
Candidates will need to be able to undertake research and perform communication activities (including the writing of reports and publications and the presentation of results at conferences and meetings) with a minimum of supervision.
The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract for 6 months from 01 July 2024 until 31 December 2024.
Informal enquiries may be addressed Prof Michael Tretyakov or Dr Mikhail Matveev, tel: +44 (0)115 95 14954 or email Michael.Tretyakov@nottingham.ac.uk or Mikhail.Matveev@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
