The position
We are looking for a dedicated colleague with research and teaching experience in English syntax, semantics and pragmatics and in the history of the English language, who is qualified to teach the two obligatory courses English Language in Use: Practice and Theory (BA, International Business Communication in English) and English Linguistics 2 (BA, English), in particular the component History of English, and who will strengthen the research and teaching profiles of the department nationally and internationally.
The applicant should have research and/or teaching experience and qualifications relevant for the teaching of other obligatory language and linguistics courses on the BA and MA degree programmes in English and on the BA and MA degree programmes in International Business Communication in English and for the teaching of more specialised elective courses on the same four degree programmes. Therefore, in addition to English syntax, semantics and pragmatics and to the history of the English language, research and/or teaching experience in neighbouring subdisciplines will also be relevant, for example contrastive/comparative linguistics, conversation analysis, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, first and second language acquisition, morphology, multimodality in texts, phonetics and phonology, and/or psycho- and neurolinguistics.
In sum, we are looking for an innovative and dedicated applicant who will enhance the research and teaching profiles of the department nationally and internationally as well as contributing to Aarhus University’s core activities in research, teaching and supervision, talent development and knowledge exchange.
Research
The successful applicant will be expected to take a role in developing research in the field of English language and linguistics. The successful applicant will be expected to publish original peer-reviewed research internationally and make internationally recognised scholarly contributions to developments within English language and linguistics. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the research community at the department in terms of new collaborative research projects with internal and external partners, with a view to securing external research funding. We welcome applicants who can bring novel approaches and methodologies to their research, pushing the boundaries of their respective fields.
