The Role and the Department
Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provides guidance, expert advice and hands-on support for all aspects of research and research-related work, including securing funding, working with partners, undertaking knowledge exchange, demonstrating impact, commercialising outputs, ensuring good research practice and supporting professional development.
Job Summary
The Commercialisation and Economic Development (CED) team provides a central service for major economic development projects (including capital investment projects and innovation and business support services) and strategic relationships that deliver intellectual and financial returns to Durham University. This activity is supported by a range of sources, including the UK Shared Prosperity Funds, national and local government.
The Commercialisation and Economic Development Coordinator will work as part of a team in a busy, demanding environment supporting the Commercialisation and Economic Development Team (CED) to deliver a host of projects, co-ordinate events and meetings and provide wider co-ordination support to the Team. The current project portfolio includes projects such as the In-TUNE programme and a Student Internships programme. Both are part-funded by the by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund through Durham County Council and the North of Tyne Combined Authority and is now administered by the North East Combined Authority. In -TUNE is a collaborative regional project led by Durham University in partnership with Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland Universities and CPI to deliver targeted innovation and commercialisation support across the North of Tyne and Durham areas supporting business productivity, innovation and spin-out formation. The postholder will be expected to possess and/or develop understanding and expertise across an extensive range of economic development projects and stakeholders involved in the various programmes. It is essential that the post holder possesses high-level organisational skills and pays close attention to detail. The ability to work across a number of concurrent projects at differ ent stages of development is essential.
