Studentship details
Cervical Screening is routinely offered to all women and all people with a cervix from the age of 25-64 and helps detect any abnormalities in cells that may lead to cancer. Currently approximately 70% of those eligible, attend for cervical screening. There are many reasons why people choose not to attend, but this PhD will investigate particular issues associated with equality, diversity and inclusion that impact individuals’ decision making. This may include ethnic and cultural considerations, and also considerations affecting trans and gender diverse people. The successful candidate will work with people from a variety of different backgrounds and with healthcare professionals to explore these issues in more detail, and to create recommendations to support decision making around cervical screening. Applicants with previous experience of conducting qualitative research and interacting with people from diverse communities will be prioritised.
For an informal discussion about the studentship, please email Professor Nicola Walsh on nicola.walsh@uwe.ac.uk
