The University's Sustainability Team has an outstanding opportunity for a Travel and Transport Manager to lead all aspects of sustainable transport and travel planning at BU and to oversee the delivery of the BU Travel Plan until 2025 and to develop a new Travel Plan to 2032.  The Travel Plan is fundamental for BU’s core business, as it enables 18,000 students, 1800 staff and visitors to have options for accessing the University and its implementation is key to delivering the new BU Climate and Ecological Crisis Action Plan (CECAP).

The post holder has line management responsibility for the Travel and Transport team and £2m/year budget responsibility which includes the University Bus service contract.

The post holder will be responsible for informing and implementing the University Car Parking Strategy and Management System to ensure car parking policy and procedures are implemented in a fair and equitable manner, whilst always ensuring excellent customer service.

The role will also contribute to supporting capital development of the Estate by providing expert advice and guidance to the University on transport matters, and in particular to the Estates Development Team to ensure the Travel Plan supports both the strategic development of BU and sustainable transport principles.

The post holder will use behavioural change techniques to promote Sustainable Transport modes, prioritising active travel and public transport options with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of the university.

You will become part of a strong and sector leading sustainability team, within the highly respected Estates Department, where your recommendations will be valued and you will have the autonomy to develop activities which make a difference, both to student/staff experience and towards reducing the environmental impact of the university.

We are looking for you to bring good knowledge and understanding of sustainable transport policies and principles. If you have proven experience of delivering a strategic Transport Plan at a multi-location site that would be useful and if you have transferable skills from other related Facilities Management sectors that would be important. We are looking for excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, and the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

The ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload and work to tight deadlines is important as is possessing strong analytical skills as you will be required to interpret a range of data sources and use this to inform management decisions. Experience of budget and contract management would be an advantage in this role.
