The Edinburgh College of Art is recruiting for a Lecturer in Design Cultures to join the team.

The Opportunity

The post has a focus on, and responsibility for, a proportion of the teaching delivery, assessment and feedback on our Undergraduate and Post Graduate Design and Screen Culture courses and contributes to PhD supervision. The postholder should have experience and specialisation in postcolonial/decolonial studies and/or critical race/ethnic studies in design contexts, and should also have a proven analytic focus on issues related to class, gender, and other intersecting identities. The post includes doctoral supervision and high contribution to the research profile of the School of Design. We welcome applications from candidates who employ a range of methods, including theoretical, historical, ethnographic, as well as experimental and practice-informed approaches.

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Educated to PhD level; with expertise in postcolonial / decolonial studies and /or critical race/ethnic studies.
  • Able to demonstrate forthcoming plans for research / hold a clear track record of research that relates to written outputs and/or practice-based outputs.
  • Experience of teaching and educational administration in higher/further education. 
  • A demonstrable commitment to the principles and practices of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.
  • Ability to work confidently and effectively with a diverse student cohort.
  • Demonstrable ability to teach design and/or screen theories to postgraduate and PhD level. 
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to design and deliver inspiring teaching, assessment, and research supervision.
  • Experience in a range of research-led teaching methods and delivery of course content.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
