This role will be based on the University Campus. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
The overall task of the succesful candidate will be to develop a tool to determine precipitation changes downwind as a result of land use change (deforestation) upwind in Amazonia, and possibly other regions in the tropics. The candidate will first install an existing code which advects water vapor on the University High Performance computer system. He will then assemble the necessary climate input files to run the code over several years. Specifically he will have to run tagged tracer runs to determine a sensitivity matrix of local precipitation change to evaporation change upwind. He will then document the approach and store and provide access to the matrices to the project group on the University computer system with codes explaing how to read the matrices. The candidate will be a member of a wider consortium including University of Exeter and CEH Wallingford, and will be part of regular meetings of the consortium with one of the meetings taking place in Amazonia.
