Professor and Dean of the Business School

The role

The University of Bristol seeks to appoint an outstanding academic leader as the Dean of the University of Bristol Business School. Sitting within Bristol’s newly formed Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences, the School undertakes world-class research and is committed to the highest international standards of teaching and student experience. 

As Dean of School, you will occupy a key academic leadership position within the University. Reporting to the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor, you will lead and manage the academic business of the School in relation both to strategy and operations. 

The appointment will be for four years, and is subject to renewal. 

What will you be doing?

As Dean you will continue to develop and deliver the overall strategic vision and ambition for the Business School in line with the strategy of the Faculty and University. You will play a key role in promoting the School and continuing to ensure our local civic, national and international profile is maintained.   

Priorities for the position will include -  

  • Continuing to realise the University’s ambition for a top Business School and deliver on the School’s ‘Socio-Tech Fusion’ strategy. 
  • Leading the transition of the Business School to the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, delivering on its activities at TQEC and Clifton 
  • Promoting research excellence and fostering a positive, high performance research culture, consistent with the University’s vision of sustaining and improving upon its world-leading research reputation.
  • Developing international research and teaching based partnerships
  • Ensuring continued excellence in research-led teaching, the student experience and educational innovation, and successfully diversifying the student cohort

You should apply if

  • You have an outstanding track record of strategic and operational leadership, driven by a commitment to excellence in research and teaching. 
  • You have international academic standing commensurate with professorial status in an area related to one or more of the disciplines within the School. 
  • You have a record of promoting excellent education and student experience, and in enabling colleagues to be excellent researchers and teachers. 
  • You have a demonstrable commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. 
  • You have proven ability to build networks and partnerships and lead teams. 

Additional information

The selection process will take place over two days, on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 July 2024 and short-listed candidates will be expected to be in Bristol for both days.
