Project title: Smart Acoustic Control Technologies
Supervisory Team: Professor Jordan Cheer
Project description:
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of engineering research with a focus on sound and vibration? Would you like to develop your skills as a researcher and kick-start a career in engineering innovation? We are offering a fully funded PhD position, with enhanced financial support from a large industrial partner, to pursue doctoral research in Smart Acoustic Control Technologies as part of a large project funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Smart Acoustic Control Technologies bring together acoustic and structural design with advanced sensing, actuation, control, and signal processing technologies including machine learning. These smart systems offer significant potential to push the boundaries of acoustic and structural vibration control design and performance. They address complex challenges across a diversity of sectors and scenarios, from the control of noise and vibration in the aerospace, automotive and maritime sectors, to the control of noise transmission between dwellings.
We are offering a fully funded industrial studentship to work in the broad area of Smart Acoustic Control Technologies in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. As part of this opportunity, we can offer you:
As the successful candidate for this position, you will have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in subjects including mechanical, acoustical, or electrical engineering, physics or mathematics and have an interest in acoustics, vibration and/or signal processing.
Entry Requirements
A very good undergraduate degree (at least a UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent).
Closing date: 31 August 2024. Applications will be considered in the order that they are received, the position will be considered filled when a suitable candidate has been identified.
Funding: Funding for tuition fees and an enhanced stipend of £5k above the standard UKRI PhD studentship rate (£19,237 2024/25) are available on a competitive basis.
