Research Associate in Natural Language Processing

You will undertake research in addressing limitations of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as hallucinations, privacy, bias, reasoning capabilities and evaluation inter alia. Your role is part of a large interdisciplinary project “Addressing socio-technical limitations of LLMs for medical and social computing” funded by the RAI UK. You will be working with Professor Nikos Aletras at the Sheffield Natural Language Processing (NLP) Group within the School of Computer Science, including close collaboration with Dr Jiahong Chen at the School of Law. The project will also offer opportunities for collaboration with partners at Queen Mary University London, University of Warwick and University of Nottingham as well as industrial partners.

You will have the flexibility to explore a wide range of possible research directions on developing cutting edge language technology as well as freedom to develop your own research agenda. You will also have access to substantial computational resources for carrying out experiments), a wide range of career development opportunities (for example, training seminars for grant writing and to give guest lectures and co-supervise PhD/MSc students) and a generous conference travel budget.

You will contribute to the aims and objectives of the Department by carrying out excellent research and by disseminating the results of your research in international journals and conferences.

You should hold or be close to completing a PhD in NLP or related AI fields for example, machine learning, and a proven track-record with publications in top-tier NLP (ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, TACL, EACL) and/or machine learning/AI venues (ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML, AAAI).
