The Centre Manager is integral to the work of CHERS and liaises with the Director and senior management to take both a strategic and operational role in the day-to-day and long-term direction of the Centre.

You will oversee all organisational and administrative systems within the Centre, ensuring effective delivery of the group’s core provision, including our academic programmes and range of workshops. You will provide line management to the Centre’s administrative team and take a lead on matters relating to HR, finance, safety, data protection and risk management.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for the overall management of CHERS, working with senior management to ensure the smooth running of the centre. Key duties will include:

  • Taking an active role in strategic planning development along with day-to-day decision making and operational management.
  • Liaising with other College departments to ensure CHERS operates effectively with robust organisational and administrative processes.
  • Overseeing the management and delivery of the EDU’s suite of workshops, academic programmes, networks and events.
  • Ensuring good practice in relation to College HR policy and procedure is followed, and act as an information/escalation point for CHERS.
  • Providing effective line management for the support team, working with each member to plan work, implement new ideas and support the strategic and operational aims of CHERS.
  • Taking responsibility for CHERS day-to-day financial management and administration of a number of budgets, managing Centre resources and appropriate procurement of products and services.
  • Liaising with the Director and senior management to prepare the CHERS annual planning round submission, providing budget forecasts and other financial reports as required.

Essential requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in managing a complex administration and support function, ideally within a ‘customer-focused’ higher education learning environment.
  • Evidence of successfully managing an academic programme.
  • Experience of financial management including planning and monitoring of budgets.
  • Proven ability to independently manage own workload and use initiative to develop appropriate new work practices and projects.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve in a wide range of areas and use initiative to independently resolve difficulties.
  • Computer literate with excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills and ability to learn new computer applications and systems.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to liaise sensitively, assertively and diplomatically with staff across College, including those in senior positions.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure with good personal organisation, prioritisation and time management skills and the ability to respond to changing and at times conflicting priorities.
