The Assistant Professor in Teacher Education: Chemistry will lead the curriculum design of the chemistry specialism within science ITE, deliver subject specialist teaching, assessment and support to ITE students within the secondary initial teacher education programme (PGCE (QTS)) at the University of Birmingham.
We are looking for an expert chemistry teacher and teacher educator with demonstrable expertise and a strong academic background to provide subject-specific pedagogical input to the programme. The postholder will have a passion for science teaching in schools and be able to enthuse, engage and inspire trainee teachers to generate this in their pupils. The postholder will need expertise and experience in teacher education and development, ideally working with trainee or early career teachers.
The postholder will contribute to aspects of wider ITE programmes including across science disciplines and Professional Enquiry working collaboratively with other subject specialist tutors, plus recruitment activity across departments.
An important part of the role will be supporting trainees on placements and managing relationships with expert colleagues and partnership schools. This will include quality assurance, mentor development and assessment of trainees against the Teacher Standards.
