Liverpool John Moores University - IT Services

Location: Liverpool
Salary: £37,100 to £44,263 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 1st May 2024

Job Ref: 4694

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The University has long recognised the importance of IT as a core component of the day-to-day running of its business. Thanks to a high level of ongoing investment, it can proudly boast some of the latest enterprise scale systems. The centralised IT Services department supports the University’s distributed computing facilities; providing in excess of 6000 desktop PCs and 1500 laptops running over 550 applications all of which are accessible both on and off campus, allowing study, work, and research to be done anywhere at any time.

Our state-of-the-art computing facilities combine latest Windows Server and RedHat Linux systems with leading cloud technologies to provide a fully resilient infrastructure, distributed between two geographically separate data centres, Microsoft Azure, and other cloud providers. This sophisticated infrastructure provides the IT required for modern, hybrid working practices supporting the administration of the University, its Teaching and Learning activities, and its extensive research projects.

IT Services is now looking for a Cloud and Windows Engineer to join their department on a full-time, permanent basis. You will be educated to degree level (or have substantial experience working in a similar role in an enterprise IT environment) and join a key team within the Infrastructure Group. You will be able to demonstrate experience in a wide variety of aspects of Windows systems administration, development, maintenance, deployment, and support.

This is an exciting time for the provision and support of core IT infrastructures with increasing use of Microsoft Azure technologies. In addition to on premise Windows skills, you will have experience of migrating and running services in Azure. Due to the nature of the role, you should also be able to demonstrate excellent customer facing skills.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction, and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

Valuing diversity and providing a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential, LJMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and communities irrespective of age, transgender status, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion or belief. All our appointments are made on merit.
