Founded by Royal Charter in 1967, the University of Stirling was the first new university in Scotland for more than 400 years. There are over 18,500 students studying with the University and over 140 nationalities represented across the picturesque central Scotland campus, voted 1st in the UK and top 3 in the world for campus environment (ISB 2022). Stirling has enjoyed a growing and increasingly impactful research profile, and the University is now looking to appoint a Deputy Principal - Research and Innovation to continue this trajectory.

The Deputy Principal - Research and Innovation is a senior leadership role responsible for leading and driving research excellence and fostering a culture of innovation and ambition. Reporting directly to the Principal and Vice Chancellor, and as a member of the executive team, the Deputy Principal will play a full part in shaping the overall strategic direction of the University and will be pivotal in advancing the University’s research and innovation strategies, engagement, and reputation, against a backdrop of changing research and innovation policy and practice.

The successful postholder will possess extensive leadership experience in a senior academic role and bring a distinguished track record in research and scholarship. Demonstrable experience of implementing research strategies, most likely across multiple disciplines, will be highly advantageous, as will be an awareness and understanding of key factors and trends impacting higher education in the UK and internationally including those related to research funding, grant management, innovation, and enterprise activity. Experience of identifying, fostering, and building strategic research collaborations and partnerships with industry and external stakeholders will be key, as will outstanding communication and influencing skills.
