About the Role
This post is part of an exciting strategic development to build world-leading behavioural science cancer research within the Wolfson Institute of Population Health. The successful candidate will work on a high profile, multi-centre trial evaluating interventions for population-based screening for prostate cancer (TRANSFORM). TRANSFORM will inform national policy and contribute to the worldwide evidence in this field. The study aims to achieve meaningful engagement with those at risk and a target of 10% of invitations being sent to black men has been set since black men are at higher risk of prostate cancer. Within the context of TRANSFORM and through related research, the successful applicant will conduct a qualitative sub-study to explore individual experience and attitudes relating to prostate cancer and recruitment for a prostate cancer screening trial.
About You
"The successful candidate will have a PhD in applied social/behavioural science and a proven track-record of high-quality research with experience of applying behavioural science approaches in the development, conduct and analysis of data collection methods and in-depth qualitative interviews. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, alongside experience of disseminating research and a good understanding of diversity issues."
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
One of six FMD institutes, the Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to over 400 staff, more than 100 PhD students and more than 500 postgraduate taught students. It harnesses expertise across a wide range of population based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health, primary care and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into six separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan, also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements.
The Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis (CCSPED) brings together globally leading researchers focusing on cancer prevention, cancer screening and detection and early diagnosis across two Units. CCSPED also hosts the cross-cutting Cancer Behavioural Science group and the CRUK-funded Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU, Director, Sasieni).
