Hours: Full Time

Start date: 1 July 2024 Fixed Term: 36 months

Applications are sought for a committed Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work with Professor Finlay Morrison conducting research for a Leverhulme Trust funded project entitled "Improper Ferroelectric Domain Microstructures for Agile Nanoelectronics".

The project will explore a new family of hexagonal tungsten bronze ferroelectrics with complex domain wall configurations. This will involve investigation of the role of composition on the form and function of domain walls. The research will include aspects of solid-state synthesis and structural analysis using powder diffraction but with primary focus on detailed electrical property characterisation of both bulk behaviour and local domain wall functionality using piezoresponse and conducting atomic force microscopies.

Candidates should have a PhD in solid-state chemistry, materials science or condensed matter physics (or closely related area) with a strong track record in physical property measurements of ferroelectrics using piezoresponse force microscopy. Previous experience in materials synthesis is advantageous, but not essential.

The post is available for 36 months starting 1st July 2024 or thereafter (flexible start date).

Employees of the University have access to a wide range of staff benefits including:
